British Commercial or Private Purchase Sun Helmet
This high quality helmet is very similar to the ubiquitous Wolseley pattern helmet used for over 80 years throughout the British Empire. The exterior construction is whitewashed canvas with a symmetrical oval brim and white pugaree. The exterior cloth is in fine shape although there are some minor flaking of the whitewash throughout. The interior has a lightly damaged dark green cloth lining and an intact leather comfort band maker marked, "J. Daniels & Co. Ltd./WOOLWHICH/CHATHAM/& 62 PALL MALL, S.W. 1". The lining of the crown is in excellent shape and the size sticker is still in place ("6 5/8") and the vacant chinstrap hooks are both still securely fixed. This is an excellent World War II era helmet and would make a fine example for a collection. {Ref. "Military Sun Helmets of the World" by Suciu and Bates; 2009}
