British-Indian Unit Marked Martini-Henry Mk. IV Long-Tang Rifle by Enfield
NSN, .577/.450 Martini-Henry, 33" barrel with a very good bore that has freckling within the grooves. This is an 1887-dated, "ENFIELD" marked rifle that has some blue remaining on the sides of the receiver and on the breechblock. The remainder of the metal has a mottled gray patina, with spots of mild surface freckling scattered throughout. There is a deeply struck unit marking on the receiver just behind the knoxform: "PAK / 1025" (troops serving in the Pakhtunkhwa region, which is now a province of Pakistan bordering the Khyber Pass). The walnut forend and buttstock have a thick, armory-added varnish with numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout. The "(Broad Arrow) / WD" and "IV" stamps on the right side of the buttstock are faint but still legible. The lock-up is still tight and the action is functional. This is a neat memento of the British Raj, and is in very good condition overall. Antique
