British Pattern 1841 Brunswick Rifle by Tower 1847 date
NSN, .70 Caliber, 30" barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is side-action variant rifle with 1847-dated, "TOWER" and "(Crown) / VR" marked lockplate. The "J. STUART" marked barrel has an overall plum-brown patina with minor freckling along most of its length, and light-moderate pitting around the bolster and nipple. The lock has a slightly grayer patina that exhibits some pitting at the forward end of the plate, and on the nose portion of the hammer. The wedge-fastened stock has numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about, including some very short, with-the-grain cracks at the rear of the lockplate. The brass furniture has an overall dull brown-ochre patina that is slightly lighter in tone on the large patchbox lid. The rifle is equipped with an original iron ramrod, sling swivels, and chained nipple protector. This is a handsome, pre-Crimean War British rifle, and is in good-very good condition overall. Antique
