Early 19th Century American Militia Cheesebox Canteen
This is a handsome and well-made canteen that measures 5 7/8" in diameter, with a depth of 2 3/8". The shaped wooden sidewalls are fastened via irregular-shaped iron brads, and the wood is finished with lightly flaked, ruddy-brown milk paint. There is a faintly visible name painted on the face: "J. Knight." The shaped wooden stopper appears to be original and retains most of a flaked brown paint finish. This is a very nice looking cheesebox type canteen, and is in fine condition overall.
