French Model 1866 Chassepot Bayonet Built 1867 Chatellerault
This is a French Model 1866 Chassepot bayonet built at Chatellerault in 1867. It measures 27 ½ inches overall with a 22 5/8 inch Yataghan blade with two fullers and flat spine marked with year and place of manufacture at Chaterllerault. The unsharpened blade has a mostly silver gray patina with no nicks and nice tip. The hooked quillon and muzzle ring are mostly a darker mottled patina with serial number # and unit 118.LI.3.220. and the appropriate French proofs. The handle is marked "B II II 185"
