French Model 1866 Chassepot Naval Bayonet 1867/68 Weyersberg
This is a rare French Model 1866 Chassepot bayonet built at Weyersberg Kirschbaum in Germany in 1867/68, only a two year run and very limited, marked only with the Weyersberg "Kings Head" on the ricasso. This very good condition example is rarer still and carries the Naval markings as dose the scabbard. It measures 27 1/4 inches overall with a 22 1/2 inch Yataghan blade with two fullers and flat spine with no markings. The unsharpened blade has a mostly bright silver finish with no nicks and nice tip. The hooked quillon and muzzle ring are mostly a darker mottled patina with serial number #3040 and an Anchor with an M inside a box. The brass handle is marked in the stud channel with a Crown.. The scabbard is marked "A 95211" on the back and with an anchor on the front. It is in very good condition with little of the original finish but no real dents or scratches. Very nice group of a short run French Bayonet.
