Japanese Army Shin-Gunto with Smith-Made Blade WW2 Era Imperial Army issue

This is a smith – made sword, measuring 36 1/2" overall, that is file marked along the tang in a kesho – yasuri pattern, and also has a painted serial number (84).  The mumei blade measures 25 1/4" with an o – kissaki tip and a lovely ko – choji temper line pattern with nie border.  The habaki is brass with a lightly worn white metal plate finish, and there are multiple metal seppa, as well as a small leather tab covering the pass-through for the never installed scabbard catch.  The standard Army cherry blossom tsuba has some of the original gilt finish remaining, and the remainder worn to a mottled ochre-brown patina.  The grip has an intact cord wrap and rayskin covering.  The fuchi – kashira are standard Imperial Army issue, and the original metal lanyard bail is still in place.  The sword is housed in a lacquered wooden saya with leather cover and single blade up hanger loop.  This is a great looking sword, with a lovely blade, and would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
