WW2 British No. 4 Mk. 1 Rifle by Maltby 1942

Serial #L11850, .303 British, 25" barrel with a very good bore that has some light freckling within the grooves towards the muzzle. This is an "M"-marked, Maltby-assembled rifle, dated 1942 on the socket. The metal retains 85-90% of the original blue, with silvering on the exposed portions of the non-import marked barrel, as well as gray fading throughout, including on the matching bolt with war-expedient smooth cocking-piece. The rifle has a double "R" stamp on top of the receiver, but is not "DP" marked. A Savage-made Mk. 1 rear sight is fitted, while the walnut buttstock and forend have crisp "C (Broad Arrow)" markings underneath. The wood is in fine shape, with only some very minor handling marks and small surface blemishes in the otherwise excellent military oil finish. The buttplate has an overall dull gray patina, and the lip for the cleaning kit compartment trap door has broken off. A single extensively marked magazine is included. This is a very good-near fine example of a Maltby No. 4 rifle overall. FFL or C&R
