Private Purchase Damascus Swiss Officer’s Saber by Mohr & Speyer
This is a very nice sword that measures 36 3/8" overall, with a 30 5/8" curved, single-edged blade having unstopped single fullers. The steel has an overall dull gray patina with lovely damascus patterning throughout both faces of the blade. There is some scattered freckling along the faces, as well as some teat tempering colors towards the tip. The long ricasso is acid-etched and gold wash finished with, "DAMASTSTAHL" on the obverse, "EISENHAUER" on the reverse, and the maker name along the back edge, "MOHR & SPEYER BERLIN." The hilt has a pierced steel guard with Swiss Cross and vine motif, a single forward-swept quillon, and dove head pommel with thumbprint backstrap. The shagreen grip is in very good shape and exhibits minor surface wear, while the braided wire wrap is intact. The steel scabbard is also in fine shape, with some scattered specks of dark freckling, and a few minor dents near the drag. A bullion wire officer’s portepee is also included. This is a truly handsome sword rates fine condition overall.
