Rare Civil War Smith 50 Cal Carbine Vulcanized Rubber Cartridge
This is a single round of .50 Caliber Smith Carbine ammunition manufactured using vulcanized india-rubber with a small hole at the base to allow ignition. A short lived Civil War cartridge that was prone to adhering to the breech. This example shows chipping of the rubber material around the bullet which shows gouges and scratches. Rare in any condition they are a sought after cartridge.
