Scarce Special Order Marlin 1893 Saddle Ring Carbine 38-55 Half Magazine

Serial #362129, .38-55, 20 inch barrel marked “For Black Powder Only” with a bright, very good plus bore with strong rifling and some very light roughness in the grooves. This is a special order Sporting Marlin Model 1893 Saddle Ring Carbine with Half Magazine, Straight stock and an unmarked metal butt plate weighing in at 6 lbs 4 oz.. The gun is in very good condition with most of a later added finish remaining with the barrel and frame mostly mottled plum-brown toning to pewter at the natural carry point on the receiver and trace amounts of the original case color remaining on the concealed parts of the lever. The barrel is marked “Marlin Firearms Co., NEW-HAVEN CT. U.S.A.” with 1887, 1889 and 1893 patent dates above the “For Black Powder” markings. The gun is equipped with the saddle ring and loop and is sighted with the correct flip up graduated rear sight and metal post front. The receiver and tang are drilled and tapped for the L.L. Hepburn receiver sight and tang sight (neither are present) evident from the “Marlin Safety” marking having been moved forward to accommodate the holes. The walnut stocks show trace amounts of a later added varnish with a repaired chip at the toe and two unplugged holes from sling swivels with the forearm having a small ½ inch shallow crack on the left side running with the grain extending from the frame, a small hole just behind the barrel band with overall light use marks and contusions. The length of pull is 13 ¼ inches to a metal butt plate. The gun functions well mechanically and is a really neat little carbine in a great caliber. FFL or C&R
