1890 Springfield US Model 1888 Trapdoor Rifle 45-70
Serial #508888, .45-70, 32 1/2" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some traces of freckling within the grooves at the muzzle. This ramrod bayonet-equipped rifle has an overall plum-brown patina on the exterior metal, including the 1884-dated breech block and Buffington rear sight. Some traces of the original color case-hardening can still be seen on the underside of the breechblock, however. The walnut stock is in good-very good condition with numerous small handling marks in the military oil finish, and a still legible "SWP/1890" cartouche on the left side of the wrist. Moderate to heavy pitting is present on the buttplate, and the stock compartment is empty. This is a very nice Trapdoor that rates about good condition overall. Antique
