Percussion Conversion US Model 1816 Contract Musket by Nathan Starr
NSN, .71 Caliber, 42" barrel with a dark, pitted bore. This is a Type III musket that was converted to a percussion via the cone type conversion. The barrel has an overall plum-brown patina with thin freckling and pitting along its length, turning to heavy pitting at the breech. The lock has a matching patina and has clear markings: "US / (Sunburst) / N. STARR" ahead of the hammer; and, "MIDDTN / CONN / 1839" behind. The walnut stock has a dark oil finish, with numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout, a faint cartouche, and crudely carved initials on the left side. The musket does not have a ramrod, but the lock is fully functional. This is a nice, arsenal converted US musket, and is in about good condition overall. Antique
