US Model 1842 Percussion Pistol by Aston
NSN, .54 cal., 8 1/2" barrel with a good bore that has some areas of light-moderate pitting along its length. The barrel and ramrod assembly have an overall smooth plum-brown patina with some thin pinprick pitting at the breech near and on the nipple bolster. The lock has a similar mottled gray and brown patina, while the hammer has a darker brown color overall, with what looks like the remnants of an old coating of protective lacquer on the head. The brass furniture has an overall mild yellow-ochre patina with some scattered dark spots, as well as a handful of very minor impact marks on the domed butt. The one-piece walnut stock is in fine condition, with only a few scratches and handling marks scattered about the original varnish. The lock is marked "US / H. ASTON" and "MIDDTN / CONN / 1850", and the barrel next to the bolster is marked "US / GW / P". The the lock fully functional, and the captive ramrod seats firmly and fully. This is a handsome pistol, and would make a fine representative example for a collection. Antique
