WWI German Ersatz Bayonet and Scabbard
This is an excellent example of a WWI German Ersatz Bayonet with original scabbard and frog. The 304mm unfullered blade is in excellent condition with 35mm of original finish on the ricasso, maker's mark. The metal handle has the distinctive clean out hole right under the socket and two pins in the tang. Most of the original paint is intact. The scabbard is two piece designed and is marked FAG indicating manufacture by F A Gobel, still has most of the original paint and is an earlier type as the unfullered blade came late in the war. The leather frog is also later war and is not pictured in "German Ersatz Bayonets" by Anthony Carter, but is very well made with heavy rivets and no stitching. Has been dyed black on the exterior only. Vary nice and rare variant of the Ersatz bayonet.
