WWII U.S. Navy MK-2 Collins & Co. Machete 1944 W/Canvas Scabbard
These long machetes are extremely rare on today's market, especially in such good condition, this with original MK 1 scabbard. Made by Collins & Co. of Hartford, Conn, this is a LEGITIMUS model long jungle machete. The Machete has an impressive overall length of 27 1/4 inches, with a slightly curved 22 inch Bush/Collins machete shape blade. The blade is about 2 1/2 inches wide at the thickest point. The ricasso is nicely marked, U.S.N., M.K-2, (Collins Emblem), LEGITIMUS, COLLINS & CO., 1944. The blade is in bright, excellent condition with light mottling and the slightest of oxidation. The black grips are in excellent condition, tight with four excellent pins. This comes with and excellent but incorrect MK 1 scabbard. This scabbard is made for the longer 26" MK 1 machete. The leather and canvas scabbard is marked "U.S.N" Mk 1, COMPANY D 90 36, which could mean, 90th USN Construction Battalion SeaBees company D. but just a guess. Great combination and scabbard switch could have been done in the field.
