Rare Swiss Model 1842 Pioneers Sawtooth Gladius Short Sword Friebourg

This is an early Swiss Model 1842 Pioneers Sawtooth short sword marked on the Ricasso with the shield of the Canton of Friebourg, Switzerland and numbered "213" on the crossguard. This is a rugged neoclassical 'Gladius' style sword. It measures 25 7/8" overall with a 20 1/8" deeply fullered blade with a sharp sawtooth edge that is in very good condition, mostly bright with carbon staining and some isolated areas of pitting. The handle, pommel and crossguard are one piece having a 4" wide guard with the classic concentric circles on either side. It comes in a brass tipped and throated leather scabbard that dried and somewhat crazed leather. It is a little short for the sword and there is a start of seam separation toward the tip which has come detached and is missing the original binding rivet. A scarce early Swiss sword in very good condition.
