Scarce Service Holster Belonging to Maj. John Page Wood, Border Regt.

This is a high quality brown leather flap holster with embossed identification along the exterior: "MAJ. J. PAGE WOOD / BORDER REGT". The leather is in fine shape with few surface scuffs or blemishes, and has some mild crazing at the flex points of the cover flap, as well as some mild flaking on the closure strap. The holster will fit a 6" barrel, Webley type revolver, and the back of the holster has a single, four rivet-fastened belt loop, with a "1/01 / R.R" stamp at the top. John Page Wood was born on April 14, 1860 to Sir Francis Wood, 2nd Baronet (of Hatherly House). He was a Major in the Border Regiment during its service in South Africa during the 2nd Anglo-Boer War, and succeeded to the hereditary title as Sir John Page Wood, 5th Baronet following the death of his brother Matthew (the 4th Baronet); retaining the title until his death in 1912. This is a splendid, identified piece of British militaria, and would make a fine accompaniment to any British military collection.
