U.S. Marked Model 1873 Entrenching Tool Knife Indian Wars Springfield
This is the Model 1873 Entrenching tool knife designed for use during the Indian Wars era of the 1880's. Produced by Springfield Armory these lightweight tools saw light duty as a digging implement. The wide flat blade tool is in very good condition, solid with large areas of carbon staining and surface roughness now showing as a plum-brown mottled appearance. The ribbed handle is solid with clear "US" marking showing light scratches and use marks. The leather scabbard is missing. A very good example of this seldom-seen tool.
