US Model 1795 Musket by Springfield Armory (Percussion Conversion)

NSN, .69 caliber, 44 1/2" barrel with fair-good, lightly pitted bore. This is an 1811-dated, Type III musket that has an overall plum-brown patina with evenly scattered areas of dark freckling and mild pinprick pitting, heaviest towards the breech. The musket was converted via the drum and nipple process, and has some mild surface oxidation on the drum, as well as on the hammer. the deeply struck "US" and "P / (eagle head) / V" proofs are still crisp and clear. The walnut stock, which has a thick, re-applied military oil finish, has scattered minor handling marks and small blemishes throughout, as well as an array of small brass brads added to the wood on top just ahead of the wrist. Additionally, a previous owner scratched his initials into the center of the sideplate on the left, "J (or (I) S." The lock is tight and functions well, and the original ramrod is still present. This is a very nice, US-marked, War of 1812 era musket in about good-near very good condition overall. Antique
