Colonial Issue British India Pattern Type II Brown Bess Flintlock Musket

NSN, .75 Caliber, 39 1/4" barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore.  This is a "TOWER" and "(Crown) / GR" marked, India Pattern musket that has an overall cleaned, pewter gray patina with spots of dark plum-brown along the barrel, and light-moderate pitting at the breech.  This musket was taken out of British Government service, and re-issued to a colonial administration, as evidenced by the intentional defacement of the lock and barrel markings.  The action is crisp and the mainspring is firm, with some mild oxidation inside the pan.  The pin-fastened walnut stock has numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the old added oil finish, with some minor chips in the wood along the edges of the barrel channel, and around the pins.  The brass furniture has developed a dark ochre patina, with darker spots scattered about the metal.  The original brass nosecap was replaced by an iron cap with indents intended to fit a no longer present locally made bayonet.  The metal ramrod is a later replacement and fairly bright, and the upper sling bail is no longer present.  This is a great looking "Brown Bess," in very good condition, that would make a great addition to any collection.  Antique
