Excellent US Model 1836 Flintlock Pistol by R. Johnson
NSN, .54 caliber, 8 1/2" barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore. This pistol is still in the original flint and has an overall mottled plum-brown and pewter gray patina mixing with pewter gray along the barrel which has clear breech markings: "US / EB / F". There is some slight pitting around the touch hole and there are some further small marks along the barrel as well. The lock plate is marked "US / R. JOHNSON / MIDDN CONN / 1839" beneath the brass pan, which has a dull yellow-ochre patina and the cock and frizzen have developed an overall dark patina. The lock is still tight and the mechanics are fully functional while the walnut stock has an excellent original oil finish with scattered small handling marks and surface blemishes, as well as a short with-the-grain crack at the rear point of the lockplate. Also included with the pistol is a photocopy of a March 1, 1984-dated receipt from Norm Flayderman for the purchase of the pistol by a previous owner. This is an excellent example of an original US flintlock pistol, and would make a fantastic addition to any collection. Antique
