Mexican Model 1822/61 Cavalry Saber by WKC

This is a handsome saber, practically identical in configuration to the US Model 1860 Cavalry, that measures 39" overall, with a 33" curved, single-edged blade having wide and narrow fullers.  The steel has an overall bright gray patina with a few small spots of dark freckling scattered along the surface.  The ricasso is maker marked on the obverse: "WEYERSERG / KIRCHBAUM & Co. / SOLINGEN"; and "R (Phrygian cap and sunburst) M" on the reverse.  The brass guard has an overall dull ochre patina, while the leather grips is in very good shape, with some wear and minor damage where it meets the counterguard, and the braided wire wrap is slightly loose, but still intact.  The steel scabbard has thin freckling and spots of mild surface oxidation along its length, but is undented and is otherwise in fine condition.  These sabers were made into the 1880s, but are not commonly encountered in the US, and this example is in very good-fine condition.
