Nice US Model 1866 Trapdoor Rifle (2nd Model Allin Conversion)
NSN, .50 CF, 36 5/8" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some traces of minor freckling within the grooves. This rifle was built on an 1864 dated musket and has a mostly pewter gray patina throughout, with some areas of mild freckling in spots along the barrel. The breechblock has spots of old surface oxidation that was cleaned at some point, leaving the metal with a mottled gray and plum-brown patina, but traces of the original dark finish remain on protected areas. The walnut stock is in very good condition with minor surface scratches and blemishes scattered throughout the original military oil finish. The "HSH" cartouche is still crisp and clear on the left side of the stock (Henry S. Hill, Springfield Inspector). The rifle comes with an original metal ramrod and also has an old leather sling installed. This is a nice 2nd Allin Conversion, and is in very good condition overall. Antique
