Scarce Civil War Patent Date F. Draper & Co. Percussion 10 Gauge Brass Shotshell
This is a F. Draper & Co. patented shotgun shell that had a unique knurled rim which unscrews to allow for reloading with a percussion cap. They were patented by William H. Wills of Boston, MA and produced by F. Draper & Company of East Cambridge, Connecticut. The flat brass base is marked “F. D. & Co.” / “Patented Nov 29 1864”. In very good condition the 10 gauge brass shell measures 2 ½ inches with a pleasant aged patina. The rim does not screw off and the used percussion cap is present. An example of a Civil War Patented brass shotgun shell that will add to any cartridge collection and would be great to display with an antique shotgun.
