WW2 RCAF Control Stick for North American Harvard Mk. II Training Aircraft
Serial #H2242. This is the head of the forward control stick for a Harvard Mk. II trainer, the British version of the North American T-6 Texan. It is dimensionally similar to the "spade" gripped control sticks employed on the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire fighters, but lacks the operating lever for the fighters’ parking brakes on the back of the stick. The head is aluminum, with textured grip sleeves around the circular portion of the grip and a black painted finish throughout. The brass machine gun firing button and knurled safety knob have a dark ochre patina with some hints of verdigris as well. An old RCAF inventory label is tied to the yoke portion. The label was filled out at one point, but has now faded into illegibility. This is a fantastic piece of aviation history, and would make a great addition to any collection.
