WWI German Second Pattern M1884/98 Bayonet and Scabbard 1917
This is a World War I German Second Pattern M1884/98 bayonet dated 1917 manufactured by Gottlieb Hammesfahr & Co. of Solingen and correct steal scabbard. Hammesfahr made M1884/98 II bayonets 1915–17. This example is in very good+ condition, blade is bright, slight oxidation, ricasso is marked with makers mark and Crown W, 17 on the spine. The grips are near excellent condition with normal wear and oiling slot. the pommel is imperial Fraktur proofmark with heat shield over spine. Scabbard is correct, very good finish with no real dents or scratches and Fraktur proof marked. Great example of a late WWI bayonet.
