Civil War Carbine Socket
This piece was attached to a cavlary troopers saddle and held his gun from flapping against the horse while riding. This was a dangerous practice as the carbine was also attached to trooper with a sling. A fall from the horse resulted in the trooper being dragged until he could free himself. Socket is in very good condtiion with light cracking and a small area of loss near seam. A fine example this one is a little smaller than most.
