Canadian S&W HE 2nd Model with Twice Identified Holster (WW1 and WW2)

Serial #36663, .45 Colt, 6" barrel with a very good, bright bore that has mild freckling along its length.  This is a Canadian "DC / P" proof-marked revolver that has been converted from .455 to .45 Colt.  The conversion was probably done by the Canadian government as there are "DC / P" stamps at each chamber on the rear face of the cylinder.  There are matching numbers on the barrel, cylinder, yoke, and extractor, with the frame armory renumbered to match.  The metal retains 75-80% of the original blue finish, with silvering at the muzzle and two ground areas on the left side of the frame where military property marks were presumably ground off.  The checkered walnut diamond-center grips are in very good shape with only minor handling marks and some flattening of the points.  The lock-up is firm and the action functions flawlessly.  The revolver is housed in a brown leather flap holster with minor scuffs and flaking on the exterior and a later replacement single Sam Browne belt loop.  The interior of the flap has both a WW1 and WW2 Canadian serviceman’s name written in ink.  The first is for "Lieut.  W.H. Harton / 5th C.N.R. / 1915."  W.H. Harton was an officer in the 5th Bn. Canadian Mounted Rifles and was listed as wounded on June 8, 1916.  That name and unit was crossed out and a second name was written above it: "CAPT. G.D. BAXTER / CFC / 1941"  The Canadian Forestry Corps was a volunteer force of lumberjacks and lumber industry administrators that managed timber cutting operations in Scotland in both of the World Wars.  Despite the normally non-combat nature of their service, the CFC of WW2 was still a military organization, and its members were armed and assigned defensive duties in case of a German invasion.  This is a good plus example of a converted S&W .455 2nd Model HE, with a very interesting double-identified holster that has a service history across both World Wars.  It would make a great addition to any collection.  FFL or C&R
