British Pattern 1853 Enfield Musket Fine Condition 1857 Dated
NSN, .577 Caliber, 39" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a few traces of freckling within the grooves towards the muzzle. This is an 1857-dated, "TOWER" marked, and "(Crown / VR" cyphered musket that retains 90% plus of a very well-done reapplied blue finish along the barrel with still sharp edges, crisp and clear markings, and only some minor silvering along some of the raised edges and surfaces. The lock has an overall dull gray patina with scattered small handling marks and minor blemishes, as well as visible remnants of the original color case-hardened finish on protected areas. The walnut stock is in very good-fine shape with numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout. The stock maker’s name is clearly stamped on the left side opposite the lock: "T.H. BOWLES," and the War Department stamp is crisp and clear on the right side of the buttstock. Additionally, there is a small issue number stamped onto the tang of the brass buttplate: "279." The musket is fitted with the original chained nipple protector (now missing the leather pad), an original metal ramrod, and a period leather sling that is in lightly worn, but still serviceable condition. This is a very handsome P-’53 Enfield, and is in very good-near fine condition overall. Antique
