Civil War US Model 1860 Cavalry Saber by Emerson & Silver

This is a handsome saber that measures 40 3/4" overall, with a 35" curved, single-edged blade having wide and narrow fullers.  The blade has a fairly bright gray patina throughout, mottled with small spots of mild surface freckling running along the length of either face of the blade.  The ricasso is maker marked on the reverse: "EMERSON / & / SI(LV)ER / TRE(NT)ON / N.J."; and "U.S. / D.F.M. / 1864" on the obverse.  The brass hilt with branched guard and Phrygian helmet pommel has an overall dull ochre patina with a few hints of brighter underlying metal along some of the edges, and scattered small surface marks and scratches throughout.  The leather grip has an intact original braided wire wrap, and is in very good-fine condition, with a few very minor spots of wear through the leather at the pommel.  The scabbard has an overall dark brown patina with streaks of brighter gray metal, and a handful of minor surface dents along its length.  This is a very nice Civil War saber that was made by a highly prized maker, and rates fine condition overall.
