Swiss Model 1840 Calvery Sword Weyersberg (Geneva Marked)

This saber is nearly identical to the Model 1840 US Heavy Cavalry Sword, manufactured by Gebruder Weyersberg, Solingen, Prussia. The saber measures 42 inches overall, with a 36" curved, single-edged blade having wide and narrow fullers. The steel is dull silver gray with only very light scattered mottling, no real nicks and nice tip. Obverse ricasso is marked “SOLINGEN.” while the reverse is marked “WEYERSBERG / RRERES” The leather bumper is fair but intact. The hilt has a brown leather covered grip that shows some wear with braided wire wrap intact. The leather shows some wear and the twisted wire wrap is 100% intact. The brass pommel cap, knucklebow and counterguard have a nice light patina. The main branch of the knucklebow is stamped with the cantonal armes of Geneva, and the tip of the counter guard is stamped "218". The undented scabbard is lightly pitted over a plum-brown patina. This is a handsome cavalry saber and is in very good plus condition over-all.
