French Model 1822 Cavalry Saber by Chatellerault
This is a June, 1880-dated saber that measures 41 3/4" overall, with a 35 3/4" curved, single-edged bade having wide and narrow fullers. This is a robust saber that has an overall mottled gray and plum-brown patina present throughout the blade, but still has legible arsenal markings along the back edge of the forte. The hilt has an overall pale yellow-ochre patina mixing with scattered spots of darker ochre tarnish here and there. Additionally, the issue numbers on the knucklebow have been defaced. The grip is in fine shape with intact leather and an intact braided wire wrap. The steel scabbard has an overall mottled plum-brown patina with moderate pitting and surface oxidation along its length, as well as a few shallow dents here and there. This is a very nice looking French saber, and is in about very good condition overall.
